Venice
Hospitality Industry

Welcome to LodgingGuide's hospitality industry listings for the Venice area.

The city of Venice began many hundreds of years ago as a collection of over 100 small, undeveloped islands in a lagoon two miles off the Italian coast in the Adriatic Sea, used as a refuge from barbarians by the coastal residents. To this day, Venice is a watery town, formed by walls and dams, that one navigates either by gondola or on foot. The streets of Venice are called canals here, and actually are the constructed pathways, connected by bridges, between the original islands. The city is constantly under construction in its continuous battle with the sea. Within the next 10 years, unless drastic changes are made, the city will lose about one third of its art works to flooding, as it sinks another 3 inches or so into the water. Noted for its fine lace and blown glass, Venice also is famous for its restaurants and one of a kind elegant hotels. You will not find much nightlife in Venice, as the ambiance here is more suited to moonlit walks and stops among the small cafes. Try to avoid Venice in the late summer months, though, when the city is at its most humid, and the smell of the canals is at its worst. The fall months are best for enjoying the water taxis and outdoor restaurants, and touring the vineyards in the surrounding countryside.
